Graduate internship: building sustainable supply chains with improved data engineering

Our customer base exists of customers like Philips, ASML, Electrolux, Jumbo, Tata Steel, Johnson & Johnson, Heineken, Unilever, Coca Cola, DSM, Kemira, Aspen and many more.

At EyeOn you will work with the latest techniques, solutions and insights in the field of planning and forecasting. Within the total consultants’ group, EyeOn has a group of consultants with specific knowledge and expertise in the area of data science and solutions. This group develops, designs and implements software solutions at our customers as well as the development of analytical solutions. The solutions are on a wide variety from improvements in Excel/Access to cloud-based planning applications like Anaplan, Jedox, Litic, Dataiku, Microsoft Azure (SQL / Blob storage), Python, Google and customer specific created solutions.

During the implementation of these solutions we notice that different hubs / business units / countries are not aligned on the data. Or they struggle to get the data in a correct uniform way. This makes it harder or even impossible to build a sustainable cross supply chain.

Objective of your research

The assignment is to:

  • Identify the main common problems regarding “disconnected” supply chains.
  • Create a new approach to connect the different supply chains.
    • Look at the current approach and define the “next” level.
    • Identify a clear and feasible approach to handle different data.
  • Define/develop a possible algorithm that will support us in handling the defined approach

Approach and planning

It is the nature of EyeOn to take a pragmatic approach in our assessments and services. We believe the process followed and the insights provided are at least as important as the technological depth of the analysis. The assignment will therefore not focus merely on methodological aspects (and optimality) of a possible data engineering approach, but also on the steps taken to arrive at the results and the way results can be presented in an understandable, insightful way to consultants and customers. In each step of the process, interaction with the analyst and/or customer needs to be supported.

This assignment intends to further develop a process to handle different supply chain complexity and alignment in a single approach that we want to apply to our customers. Regarding data we also like to have any algorithm that can be used in supporting this approach. We expect that using of an algorithm will lead to a significant performance increase to our customers regarding data but also for implementing planning solutions.

Concepts, the approach and the outcomes of the study and possible algorithm will be presented to and discussed with internal customers (business units within EyeOn).

The data science and solutions team have a strong basis and long history in handling complex supply chains where the planning solutions needs to be implemented. In order to make a real step, we are looking for a candidate that combines methodological skills, capability to think in terms of supply chain optimization and data engineering processes, with a good sense of presentation. This makes the assignment very challenging. The assignment will be highly rewarding because it has the potential to help a large group of companies to the next level of planning and insights.

The planned project start is as soon as possible. The anticipated duration of the project is 6 – 8 months, full time.

  • A university study in Econometrics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering or similar
  • Working location: Aarle-Rixtel

  • Helps companies make better forecasting and planning decisions based on quantitative analysis and analytical models.
